Common Questions, Answered

Registered parents receive an SMS notification when the bus departs its first stop and again when it is approximately 5 minutes from your pickup location. Live GPS tracking is also accessible via the Universal School parent portal 24/7.
If a student misses the bus, parents are responsible for alternative transport to school that day. Please notify the school office as early as possible. Buses are unable to wait beyond the designated pickup window to keep all other students on schedule.
Yes. We offer full-week and partial-week subscriptions. Parents can opt for morning-only, afternoon-only, or selected days. Contact the transport office to discuss a flexible arrangement that suits your schedule.
Students are expected to remain seated and belted at all times, respect fellow passengers and the supervisor, avoid loud noise, and keep the bus clean. Repeated misconduct may result in suspension from the service in line with the school's conduct policy.
Transportation fees vary by route distance and are billed termly alongside school tuition. Families enrolling mid-term are billed on a pro-rated basis. Full fee details are available from the Admissions & Finance office upon request.
In adverse weather or road closure situations, parents are notified via SMS and the school's official communication channels. Buses may operate with adjusted routes or delayed departure. Student safety always takes precedence over schedule adherence.

Route Design Principles

Every Universal School route is engineered by our transport coordinator to balance three priorities: minimising total journey time, maximising geographic coverage, and ensuring student safety at every boarding point.

  • Maximum 75-minute journey for any student on any route
  • Stops only at safe, sheltered, well-lit boarding points
  • Routes reviewed and rebalanced each academic year
  • Demand-responsive adjustments when enrolment shifts
Not on a Current Route?

We May Be Able to
Extend Our Coverage

If your neighbourhood is not currently served by one of our three zones, contact our Transportation Coordinator directly. Routes are reviewed each term and may be adjusted or extended based on demand — particularly when multiple families from the same area make a request. No family should miss out on safe, supervised transport because of a gap in current coverage.

Universal School · Aramoun, Mount Lebanon

No route is ever set in stone. Our transport network exists to serve our families — and if a family is not served, we see that as a problem worth solving, not a limitation to accept.

How Bus Service Works — Universal School Transportation
Section 3 · Transportation

How Bus Service Works

Every journey — morning and afternoon — follows a structured, supervised routine so parents can trust the process and students feel safe and settled from the first stop to the last.

Morning Journey

School-Bound Run

6:30 – 7:50 AM
1
Students Board at Designated Stops
Each student is assigned a specific boarding location at the start of the year. Stops are chosen for safety, visibility, and ease of access — always at a sheltered, well-lit point.
Fixed stop locations
2
Stops Occur at Specific Times — Punctuality Required
Each stop has a fixed departure time. The bus cannot wait beyond the scheduled window. Students must be at the stop and ready to board at least 2 minutes before the listed time.
Be ready 2 min early
3
Supervised by Bus Monitor & Driver
Every bus is staffed by both a licensed driver and a dedicated bus monitor. The monitor scans student ID cards at boarding, maintains order, and ensures each child is safely seated before departure.
Two adults on board
4
Direct Transport to School
Once all stops are complete, the bus travels directly to Universal School — no detours. Students arrive via the dedicated school entrance and are handed over to on-duty staff.
No unnecessary stops
Afternoon Journey

Home-Bound Run

~3:00 – 4:30 PM
1
Students Board Immediately After Dismissal
Bus students are directed to the loading zone right after the final bell. A duty teacher escorts younger students to their assigned bus, while secondary students proceed independently.
Departs ~15 min post-bell
2
Roll Call Ensures All Students Accounted For
Before departure, the bus monitor calls the register against the daily manifest. No bus leaves until every enrolled student is confirmed as present, or their absence is verified with the school office.
Full headcount before departure
3
Same Stops as Morning Route
The afternoon journey follows the same designated stop locations in reverse order. Students are dropped at their registered stop — no ad-hoc or unplanned drop-offs are permitted.
Mirror of morning route
4
Parents / Guardians Must Be Present for Younger Students
For KG through Grade 4, a parent or authorised guardian must be visible at the stop before the child is released. If no adult is present, the monitor retains the child and contacts the family immediately.
Required: KG – Grade 4

Roles & Responsibilities

Everyone Has a
Role to Play

Safe transport is a shared responsibility between the school, families, and students. Understanding each role keeps every journey smooth and every child safe.

Bus Monitor

The monitor is the primary responsible adult on each bus — from the moment students board to the moment they are handed to a guardian.

  • Calls and verifies roll call every run
  • Scans student ID cards at boarding
  • Maintains order and assists younger students
  • Contacts parents and school in any incident
Parents & Guardians

Parents are partners in safe transport — your punctuality, presence, and communication directly protect your child and every other student on the route.

  • Ensure child is at stop 2 minutes early
  • Be present at PM stop (KG – Grade 4)
  • Notify school if child will not use bus that day
  • Keep contact details updated in parent portal
Students

Bus conduct is an extension of the school's behaviour policy — respect, safety, and responsibility apply from the moment the bus door opens.

  • Remain seated and belted throughout journey
  • Follow monitor instructions immediately
  • Keep noise at a considerate level
  • Never exit at an unregistered stop
Important — Guardian Presence Policy

Parents Must Be Present at PM Stops for Younger Students

For students in KG1 through Grade 4, a parent or pre-authorised guardian must be visibly present at the designated stop before the bus monitor will release the child. If no adult is present, the child is retained on the bus, returned to school, and the family is contacted immediately. This policy is non-negotiable and exists entirely for your child's protection.

Seat Belts on All Equipped Vehicles

Where vehicles are equipped with seat belts, use is mandatory for all students. The bus monitor ensures all students are properly belted before departure from every stop.

  • Mandatory use policy enforced by monitor
  • Belts checked before departure from every stop
  • Younger students assisted by monitor if needed
Emergency Ready

Emergency Procedures & Equipment

Every bus carries mandated emergency equipment and both the driver and monitor are trained in emergency evacuation procedures, basic first aid, and incident reporting protocols.

  • First aid kit — fully stocked, checked each term
  • Fire extinguisher and emergency exit procedures
  • Emergency contact list for every enrolled student
On-Board Supervision

Every Journey, Every Student, Accounted For

Supervision is not passive — it is active, structured, and consistent from the first boarding call to the final drop-off confirmation, every school day.

01
Dedicated Bus Monitor on Every Route

Each bus is staffed with a trained, school-vetted monitor who is the primary responsible adult for students throughout the journey. Monitors are especially important for younger students and early years, providing a reassuring, familiar presence each day.

  • Present from first boarding to last drop-off
  • Background-checked and trained in child supervision
  • First point of contact for student issues on board
02
Roll Call at Departure & Arrival

A formal roll call is conducted against the daily manifest before the bus departs school in the afternoon, and again verified upon arrival at school in the morning. Every student is accounted for — there are no exceptions.

  • Manifest cross-checked before every departure
  • Digital ID scan at boarding via monitor tablet
  • No bus departs until all students confirmed
03
Communication with School About Absences

If a student who is registered for the bus does not board their assigned stop, the monitor immediately contacts the school office. The office then cross-references attendance records and contacts the family if the absence is unexplained.

  • School notified of no-show within 5 minutes
  • Family contacted if absence is unverified
  • Absence logged in daily transport report
04
Contact Protocol for Any Issue

A clear escalation protocol governs every non-routine situation on the bus — from a missed stop to a medical concern. Parents are always notified promptly, and the school's duty coordinator is reachable throughout operating hours.

  • Monitor → coordinator → parent escalation chain
  • SMS to parent within minutes of any incident
  • All incidents logged and reviewed by management
Step 1

Bus monitor identifies and documents the issue on board in real time

Step 2

1
Secure the Vehicle & Students
Driver brings the bus to a safe stop. Monitor ensures all students remain seated and calm. Hazard lights activated immediately.
2

Transportation Policy · Section 5

Bus Expectations & Behavior

The bus is an extension of the school environment. Every student, family, and driver shares responsibility for keeping each journey safe, respectful, and orderly — from first pickup to final drop-off.

A Culture of Shared Responsibility

Universal School's transportation code is built on a simple principle: the bus is a community space. Every student who rides contributes to the atmosphere experienced by all others. Clear expectations protect that community — and consequences exist not to punish, but to preserve it.

Safety First
Mutual Respect
Personal Accountability
Community Care
5
Student Responsibilities
Clear rules every rider knows on day one
5
Escalating Consequences
Progressive steps from warning to removal
3
Parties Involved
Student, family, and school work together
0
Tolerance for Unsafe Acts
Safety violations escalate immediately
Part One

Student Responsibilities

These five responsibilities apply every single day — at the stop, on the bus, and during every interaction with drivers, monitors, and fellow passengers. They are not suggestions; they are the conditions of bus access.

Arrive 5 Minutes Early

Be at your designated stop at least five minutes before your scheduled pickup time. Buses run on a fixed schedule and cannot wait — a missed bus is the student's responsibility, not the driver's.

Punctuality

Remain Seated While Moving

Stay in your assigned seat with your seatbelt fastened for the entire journey. Standing, crouching in the aisle, or moving between seats while the bus is in motion is strictly prohibited.

Safety

Follow Driver & Monitor Instructions

Comply immediately and respectfully with all reasonable instructions from the bus driver and monitor. These staff members have full authority to manage behaviour during transit.

Authority & Compliance

Keep the Bus Clean & Undamaged

No food, drink, or litter inside the bus unless specifically permitted. Any intentional damage to school property will be reported, and the cost of repair may be charged to the student's family.

Property Care
Good to Know

These Rules Apply for the Entire Transit Journey

Responsibility begins the moment a student leaves home for their stop and ends when they are safely dropped off. Conduct at the stop itself falls under the same code — including behaviour while waiting.

At the stop
On the bus
During drop-off
Every school day
Consequences for Misbehaviour
Part Two

Consequences for Misbehaviour

Our approach is progressive and proportional. Minor incidents are handled swiftly and internally. Repeated or serious violations escalate through a structured five-step process designed to protect all students and maintain a safe environment.

Verbal Warning

The driver or monitor addresses the student directly and calmly. The nature of the issue is explained and the student is given a clear opportunity to correct their behaviour. Recorded internally but no formal communication sent home.

Low

Parent Notification

A formal written or telephone notification is issued to the student's parent or guardian outlining the specific incident, the expectation that was not met, and what is required going forward. A copy is filed with the transport coordinator.

Moderate

Assigned Seating

The student is relocated to a specific assigned seat — typically near the front of the bus, adjacent to the monitor. This restriction remains in place until the transport coordinator determines the student's behaviour has improved sufficiently.

Elevated

Temporary Bus Suspension

The student is suspended from bus service for a defined period — typically one to five school days depending on the severity of the incident. The family is responsible for arranging alternative transportation during this period. A meeting with the transport coordinator may be required before reinstatement.

Serious

Permanent Bus Removal

Applied in cases of serious violations — including physical aggression, threats, vandalism, or repeated failure to comply after earlier consequences. The student's bus privilege is permanently revoked for the academic year. This decision is made by school administration in consultation with the transport coordinator. No refund of transport fees applies.

Critical

Safety Violations Skip Steps

Any act that directly endangers passengers — such as throwing objects, physically assaulting another student, or interfering with the driver — bypasses early steps entirely and proceeds directly to Step 4 or Step 5 at the administration's discretion.

Families Are Always Informed

At every stage from Step 2 onwards, parents or guardians are formally notified before the consequence takes effect where possible. We believe transparent communication with families is central to resolving conduct issues effectively.

Rules on the bus are not about control — they are about care. When every student honours these expectations, every student benefits: a quieter ride, a safer journey, and a community where no one dreads boarding in the morning.

Enrollment & Fees

Getting your child onto a Universal School bus is a straightforward four-step process. Fees are simple, transparent, and integrated into the existing tuition payment schedule — no surprise charges, ever.

Simple Process, Clear Costs

Bus enrollment at Universal School is handled through the school's admissions and finance offices. The process covers four stages: declaring your need, confirming your address for route assignment, completing the required agreement and emergency documentation, and settling the transport fee through the standard tuition cycle. There are no hidden charges and no complex applications — just four clear steps.

How to Enroll

Four Steps to Your First Ride

Enrollment opens at the start of each academic year and during the admissions window. You can also enroll mid-year — subject to space on your assigned route. Contact the transport office to confirm availability.

Indicate Transportation Need
Mark the bus service option on your annual enrollment or re-enrollment form during the admissions process.
Provide Home Address
Submit your full residential address so the transport coordinator can identify your zone and assign you to the correct route.
Complete Agreement & Emergency Forms
Sign the bus conduct agreement and provide up-to-date emergency contact information and any relevant medical notes.
Pay Transportation Fee
Transport fees are settled through the standard tuition payment schedule — no separate billing cycle or payment portal required.

Indicate Transportation Need on Enrollment Forms

When completing your annual enrollment or re-enrollment documentation, look for the transportation section and select the bus service option. This triggers the route assignment process and notifies the transport coordinator that your child requires a bus place for the upcoming academic year.

  • Available on the main enrollment form — no separate application needed
  • Applies to both new and returning students each academic year
  • Mid-year enrollment accepted subject to route availability
If re-enrolling from a previous year, confirm with the transport office that your assigned route and stop remain unchanged before the new term begins.

Quick Answers

Enrollment Questions Answered

The most common questions families ask when enrolling in bus service — answered clearly and concisely.

When does enrollment open?
Bus enrollment opens alongside the general school re-enrollment window at the start of each academic year. New families can enroll from the date their admission is confirmed. Mid-year enrollment is accepted subject to available space on your assigned route.
Can I change my child's stop after enrollment?
Stop changes are possible but subject to availability on your route. Submit a written request to the transport office with your new address or preferred stop. Changes typically take effect within one week of approval.
Are fees refundable if we withdraw?
Transport fees are non-refundable once the service has commenced for a semester. In extraordinary circumstances — such as relocation or withdrawal from the school — requests are reviewed individually by school administration.
How is the sibling discount applied?
Once both siblings are confirmed as enrolled in bus service, the discount is applied automatically to the invoice. You do not need to request it separately — the finance office verifies sibling status during the enrollment process.
What happens if my child misses the bus?
Buses depart on schedule and cannot wait beyond their designated window. If your child misses their stop, you are responsible for alternative transportation to school that day. The bus fee is not adjusted for individual missed days.
How do I pay — is it a separate payment?
No separate payment is needed. The transport fee appears as a line item on your standard school tuition invoice. You pay through the same channel and on the same schedule you already use for tuition — no new accounts or portals required.

When Routes May Be Adjusted

Routes are reviewed and may be adjusted at three key points in the academic year. Families are always notified in advance when any change affects their child's stop or timing.

Trigger 01 · Annual
Start of School Year
Routes are reviewed at the beginning of each academic year to accommodate new student enrollments, address changes, and updated zone populations. All returning families are notified of any changes before the first day of bus service.
Trigger 02 · Semester
Semester Transitions
Between semesters, routes may be adjusted based on enrollment changes — students joining or leaving bus service, new families enrolling mid-year, or capacity shifts across existing zones. Updated schedules are issued before the new semester begins.
Trigger 03 · Ongoing
Traffic or Road Condition Changes
If road closures, construction, or sustained traffic changes render a regular route impractical, stops or detours may be adjusted without waiting for a semester break. These adjustments are communicated to affected families as soon as the decision is confirmed.
How You'll Be Notified

Families Notified in Advance of Every Route Change

No route change takes effect without prior communication. The school uses a layered notification approach to ensure every family receives the update through at least one channel before the change goes live.

Direct Email Notification
Official email sent to the primary contact on file outlining the change, the effective date, and the new stop or timing details.
K12NET School Platform
Message broadcast through the K12NET system, visible to all registered parents on the school communication platform.
WhatsApp Group Broadcast
Route-specific WhatsApp group message sent to all affected families with a summary of the change and key action items.
Emergency Procedures
Emergency Procedures

Protocols for Every Situation

Whether it is a road emergency or a weather delay, Universal School's transport team has a defined response protocol. Every driver and monitor is trained to act swiftly and communicate clearly — keeping students safe and families informed.

In Case of Emergency
Emergency Response Protocol
Activated immediately for any on-road incident involving students
  • 1 Driver follows trained emergency protocols — securing vehicle, assessing situation, and administering first response measures as needed
  • 2 Emergency services contacted immediately (112) if the situation requires medical or road intervention
  • 3 School transport coordinator notified within 60 seconds — school activates its own crisis communication protocol
  • 4 Parents of affected students are contacted directly and immediately — no family waits without knowing what has happened
  • 5 Full incident report filed within 24 hours and reviewed by school management for any follow-up action required
Delays
Traffic & Weather Delay Protocol
Clear steps for every delay — students supervised, parents informed
  • 1 Traffic or weather delay is identified by the driver or detected through GPS monitoring at the school's transport dashboard
  • 2 Delay communicated to the school transport coordinator specifying the estimated duration and affected route
  • 3 School notifies affected parents via K12NET platform and WhatsApp group broadcast — including revised estimated arrival time
  • 4 Students at school remain under full supervision of school staff until buses arrive — no student is left unattended
  • 5 Updates issued every 15–20 minutes for extended delays — parents given a final arrival confirmation when bus departs school
Emergency Contact Information on File for Every Student
Every student enrolled in bus service has a complete emergency contact record kept on the bus — accessible to the monitor at all times. This includes at least two guardians or relatives who can be reached immediately in any situation. If your contact details change during the year, notify the transport office immediately so records are always current.

Bus Service Policies
Service Policies

Bus Service Operating Rules

These four policies govern day-to-day bus service operations. They exist to keep routes running smoothly, protect students, and ensure no family is left without information when conditions change.

Attendance & Consistency
Routine

Regular bus riders are expected to use the service consistently. Frequent ad-hoc changes — skipping the bus some days, using a different stop without notice — disrupt route timing and affect other students on the same run.

  • Consistent use keeps the route on schedule for all riders
  • Unexpected no-shows without notification cause driver delays
  • Regular use also helps monitors build familiarity with each student
Illness & Absence Notification
Required

If your child is ill or will not be taking the bus on a given day, inform the school before the bus departs for the morning run. This allows the driver to be notified and prevents unnecessary waiting at your stop.

  • Notify school office — not just the class teacher
  • Bus driver is updated before reaching your stop
  • Avoids delays for other students on the route
Late Bus Procedure
Action Required

If your bus does not arrive within the expected window, do not assume it has been cancelled. Contact the transportation coordinator directly to confirm status before making alternative arrangements.

  • If bus is more than [X] minutes late — contact the transport office
  • Coordinator can confirm real-time location via GPS dashboard
  • Do not send your child to an alternate stop without confirming
Weather Policy
Variable

Bus service operates in most weather conditions. In the event of extreme weather that makes travel unsafe or impractical, service may be delayed or cancelled — with families notified through all available channels as early as possible.

  • Standard rain, wind, or seasonal conditions — service continues
  • Extreme conditions — decision made by 6:00 AM where possible
  • Notification via K12NET and WhatsApp before first pickup departs

Good communication is the backbone of good transport. Our commitment is simple: no parent should ever be left wondering where their child is or what is happening. When things go exactly as planned, we stay quiet. When anything changes, we tell you first.
