Our Academic Commitment

Every Student Achieves Their Academic Potential

Academic counseling at Universal School is not remedial — it is universal. Every student benefits from structured guidance, goal-setting, and a counselor who knows them by name.

Academic Counseling Vision

Skills for school today.
Habits for life tomorrow.

We go beyond grades. Our counselors help students understand how they learn, build the habits that sustain success, and develop the confidence to face challenges — inside and outside the classroom. Whether a student is catching up, keeping pace, or leaping ahead — we are with them, always.

What Academic Counseling Achieves
Students develop effective, independent learning strategies that last beyond school
Early identification of gaps prevents small difficulties from becoming large ones
High-achievers are stretched and engaged — never left to coast on natural talent
100% of graduating students reach their next academic destination with a clear plan
Parents receive timely, meaningful updates — not just at report card time

Academic counseling is not about fixing students. It is about equipping them — with skills, with confidence, and with the belief that every challenge they face in school is preparing them for something larger.

Counseling is not a sign that something is wrong. It is a sign that a student — or a family — is choosing to face something difficult with support rather than alone. That choice, however small it feels, is an act of extraordinary courage.

Ethics & Privacy

Confidentiality & Ethics

Trust is the foundation of every counseling relationship. Students deserve to know exactly what is private, what is not, and why — before any conversation begins.

What Is Confidential

Private by default · Shared only with permission

Our Commitment: Student counseling conversations are private and are not shared with parents, teachers, or other school staff — except with the student's own permission.

What Stays Between Student & Counselor
Personal and social concerns shared during sessions
Family matters and personal circumstances
Mental health disclosures and emotional wellbeing
Peer relationship difficulties and conflicts
Career and pathway doubts or anxieties

When Confidentiality Is Broken

Safety first · Always explained upfront

Limited Exceptions Only: Confidentiality exists to protect students — and in rare cases, that protection requires us to act. These exceptions are always disclosed before a session begins.

Confidentiality Is Broken When
Student safety is at risk — suicide or self-harm
Someone else's safety is at immediate risk
Abuse or neglect is suspected or disclosed
A court order requires disclosure

Always informed first: Students are always told about these limits before any counseling session begins — so they can make fully informed choices about what they share.

Specialist Referrals

External Referrals

When a student's needs exceed what school-based counseling can provide, we connect families with trusted external professionals — and we stay involved to coordinate care every step of the way.

When We Refer Out

Specialized support,
coordinated with care.

Universal School maintains active relationships with trusted external professionals and clinics across Beirut and Mount Lebanon. When specialized expertise is needed, our counselors make the connection — and continue supporting the student in parallel at school.

A referral is never an ending. We remain your child's school-based support team — working alongside any external provider you engage.

Specialist Services We Refer To

Trusted professionals · Coordinated care
Psychological Assessment Formal testing for learning profiles, IQ, and clinical diagnosis
Therapy & Counseling Individual, family, and group therapy with licensed professionals
Psychiatric Care Medication management and specialist psychiatric evaluation
Occupational Therapy Sensory, fine motor, and daily function support
Speech & Language Therapy Communication, fluency, and language development support
Academic Tutoring Subject-specific external tutors for targeted academic reinforcement
Counselor-coordinated: Our counselor provides referrals, helps families navigate the process, and coordinates ongoing communication between school and external providers — so nothing falls through the gaps.
